The trend of manufacturing thinner disks with larger capacity is continued by Western Digital with their launch of WD10SPCX. Disk enters the company's Blue product line and comes in 2.5-inch format suitable for notebooks.

With a capacity of 1 TB and a thickness of 7 mm this solution is currently the thinnest disk with 1TB capacity available on the market. The size is very suitable for installation increasingly popular and very thin ultrabooks. Panels of the disc are spinning at standard 5,400 rpm, and there is also a support for the SATA 6 Gb/s interface and 16 Mb buffer.

Western Digital highlights maximum consumption of low 1.7 W, an average latency of 5.5 ms and a number of technologies for quieter and more reliable operation like ShockGuard, WhisperDrive, StableTrac and two level actuators. Suggested retail price is $139, and the same is already installed by Acer and Asus into their Haswell notebooks.
