Acer is readying budget phones for the smartphone market

Reading time is around minutes.

Taiwanese company Acer has introduced two new models of smart phones that will come at affordable prices. Acer Liquid E3 has a 4.7 inch 720p IPS screen, quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory for data storage. The rear camera is a 13 megapixel with Acer's super-fast focus and f/1.8 aperture. The operating system is an older version of Android, 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat for this device should appear by the end of this year.

Liquid E3 will be sold at a price of €199 and will have a thickness of 8.9 millimeters. Another device is presented but with weaker specifications. It is a model Liquid Z4 which comes with dual-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, 5-megapixel rear camera and 4 GB of internal storage space. This model would also use the operating system Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean that will probably never get an upgrade to KitKat. Price of the Liquid Z4 model will be €99.

Both devices should appear on the European market in April this year.

[Ed – As the market for the top-end phone stagnates the battle is going to move to the entry level. Here the stakes are actually larger (more people are in this market) and there is also room for significant change. The question is: can companies adapt and really temp the market, or is everyone still wanting the best of the best.]
