Apple stays with PowerVR GPUs

Written by

Reading time is around minutes.

After Apple this year for the production of A8 processor (SoC) hired companies that have not participated in the development of processors for Apple, an open question remained who will make the graphics processor for the new iPhone 6 and the upcoming iDevices.

Rumors emerged that the Apple will change suppliers that manufacture PowerVR graphics chips for them since the launch of the first iPhone 2007. However, yesterday in a short report released by the British company Imagination Technologies was confirmed that Apple extended multi-year agreement with them, which provides Apple with access to current and future products (PowerVR GPU and Video IP cores) of the company.

This decision is not surprising if one considers that Apple is also a minority shareholder in the company in which they own slightly less than 10% of the ownership stake.
