According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple wants to broaden the base of their partners, and therefore instead of Foxconn's, for manufacturing of allegedly cheaper iPhone they will use the services of Pegatron.

Specifically, Pegatron has already produced a number of iPhones and iPad Minis, and reportedly has been selected as the main compiler of cheaper iPhone which is expected to be launched later this year. The Wall Street Journal says that Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, plans to achieve greater balance in the company's supply chain by transferring much of the work to Pegatron.

As one of the possible reasons problems in the production of the iPhone 5 in Foxxcon's factories  were discussed, which is why there has been problems in the supply market. Pegatron has reportedly already started mass recruitment of workers, and plans to increase the number of employees in the second half of the year by 40%.
