The Pirate Bay changed domain again

Controversial torrent service Pirate Bay once again changed the domain. Latest  .sx domain the Pirate Bay was on, was registered in the Dutch part of the Caribbean island of St. Martin (Sint Maarten), was seized probably due to the commitment and the impact of BREIN, a Dutch organization for copyright protection.

Hotifile shut down for good

Hotfile, one of the most popular services for sharing files has ceased their operations. In a recent court settlement Hotfile has agreed to pay a fine of $80 million for copyright infringement to several movie studios. It is the result of a lawsuit for copyright infringement started in March 2012. submitted by Disney, Fox, Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner against Hotfile CEO, Anthony Tito.

The Pirate Bay Is Sailing Into The Cloud

After their past server hosting provider PRQ got raided by the feds, The Pirate Bay decided to make a move towards protecting themselves. They announced this move in a very theatrical blog post “So, first we ditched the trackers. Then we got rid of the torrents. Now? Now we've gotten rid of the servers. Slowly and steadily we are getting rid of our earthly form and ascending into the next stage, the cloud.” Even though the whole movement only caused a small 5 minute outage, it was quite a big job to do it.

The Pirate bay back online after 2 days of downtime

After almost 2 days The Pirate Bay is back online. There is no reason for concern as the problem was just a broken power distribution unit. The power went off on Monday and it seemed like it was just a standard blackout that happens every few weeks. However, the problem was in a power distribution unit at their data center and considering kind of data the The Pirate Bay has they decided that someone who they know should replace the broken part. They decided it was too risky for them to let a random employee from the hosting facility to fix this issue, so they took their time to do it themselves.

There are many, many people and organization that do not support this and still more that only pay it lip service. We have found what we can only call hypocritical in one of the more open countries out there; the Netherlands. At the same time they have passed a law on Net Neutrality, they have also ordered ISPs to block The Pirate Bay.
