LTPS LCDs from Sharp in new Galaxy S5

Written by

Reading time is around minutes.

If you believe the rumors from Chinese sources, whose claims were transferred by GSMArena, next Samsung's most advanced smartphone will make a step in a new direction. Instead of their own Super AMOLED screen, Samsung decided to implement LTPS (low-temperature polisilicon) LCD, sources say.

The supplier of the screen would be Sharp, and the reason for the changes are problems in production of Super AMOLED screen with 2K resolution. Apparently, Samsung SDI can not produce a sufficient number of working high resolution screens, at least not enough for the expected sale of the Galaxy S5. Diagonal screen in question amounts to 5.25 inches, and the resolution will be sufficient for the image display density of 560 pixels per inch.

Samsung last year bought a 3% stake in Sharp. Taking of load from their own production facilities would allow Samsung to focus on the development and mass production of flexible AMOLED screen, of course if they will be able to produce them.
