Intel investing in wearable devices

Intel announced that they have taken over a start-up company Basis Science from San Francisco. It is a company that specializes in the development and production of biometric sensors, and theri most device is Basis band, smart fitness bracelet that tracks a user's health - heart rate, calorie consumption, and stuff like that.

 

Basis Science will be integrated into Intel's New Devices Group, which deals with the wearable devices. Former director of Basis will become general manager of the department, it was agreed as part of the acquisition. With this move Intel gets the knowledge and technology to further advance in the market wearable technology, and access to the world market where the Basis was one of the leaders.

The amount that is paid for the company was not disclosed, and it is considered that the sum amounts to around 100 million U.S. dollars.
