isoHunt back online

Written by

Reading time is around minutes.

Less than two weeks ago, BitTorrent tracker isoHunt has stopped working toward a settlement that led to the dismissal of long-term litigation at the district court in California. This is a complaint against isoHunt and its owner Gary Fung, which was started in 2006 by several American film studios due to multiple violations of copyright. But it did not take long for isoHunt to reappear.

Replacing the former .com domain with the new one, site is now available on .to domain which belongs to the Pacific island state of Tonga. According to the website TorrentFreak beside just domain, the ownership structure of the service has also changed.

New isoHunt is managed by unknown group of individuals which before closing of the old isoHunt copied the entire content of the page, without Gary Fung knowing about it, and restarted isoHunt under new owners.

[Ed - The rebirth of isoHunt might be viewed as a good thing by many (and in some ways it is), but there is a consequence to Gary Fung in that the people going after him might believe he is involved and try to get even more out of him. We know that the MPAA is not about what is right or fair, they want to send a message and hurt someone. It will probably not matter than Fung is not involved at all. All that will matter is that he is someone they can get to.]
