Microsoft has confirmed that the upcoming Xbox One, which will appear on the market later this year, will not support the use of external drives initially, although this option is announced during the presentation of the console. MS then confirmed that the USB 3.0 ports can be used to connect an external drive that will allow players to expand the capacity of their console due to the fact that the built-in drives will not be able to change.

However, this option will be “included” in one of the upgrades that will arrive in the months after the release of the console, and the delay comes because of the need of the development team to concentrate on some “more important” things.

At PAX fair confirmation came from Sony that the drives built into the PlayStation 4 will be possible to change and that the console will support the use of external drives from day one. Unfortunately, Sony has decided to disable installation of games on external drives, and this decision without detailed explanation was very briefly announced on Twitter.
