Online shopping during Christmas above all expectations

Written by

Reading time is around minutes.

The rush of American consumers to online shops in the last days before Christmas apparently surprised the traders . Despite numerous analyisis and statistics, it seems that companies like Amazon and Wal -Mart, and courier service such as UPS as well, failed to accurately predict the amount of sales that will occur this year.

During the holiday period, US online sales holds up to 14% of the entire retail sector, and only this year, according to IBM Digital Analytics, in the last weekend before Christmas online orders were 37% higher than last year. The amount of packages that were supposed to be delivered has exceeded all expectations, and the large numbers of consumers did not receive their gifts because of that.

The American chain stores and couriers apologized to customers and send them a value coupons worth up to $25, all in order to compensate for damage due to undelivered orders. Amazon has this year during the Christmas season even hired 70,000 seasonal workers (40 % more than last year), but despite them numerous gifts ordered through the Internet remained undelivery .
