Samsung might soon cease the production of microSD cards in their own facilities. According to Digitimes, the company gives up the manufacture of fabricated microSD card in order to improve focus on more profitable embedded solutions such as eMMC, EMCP and SSD.

Despite the huge popularity of microSD cards in today's mobile devices, revenues from manufacturing and selling are getting lower with every day for producers. Samsung therefore intends to focus resources on more profitable NAND flash solutions, but still plans to sell wafer with memory chips to interested clients, who themselves will have to produce and assemble finished microSD card.

Production of more profitable eMMC, EMCP and SSD solutions was already put into focus by Samsung's main competitors in this market segment - SanDisk, SK Hynix, Toshiba and Micron Technology.
