Sony Shows off Project Morpheus

After months of speculation Sony at this year's GDC finally announced its own solution for virtual reality and it is called Project Morpheus. Sony's "virtual reality glasses" are intended for PlayStation 4 and beside in games they can be used for viewing other content.

Sony's Shuhei Yoshida explained that the industry has progressed through the creation of technological improvements aimed at gamer for which many did not expect to even be possible. Virtual reality is the next innovation that will shape the future of gaming according to him. Yoshida also added that Morpheus will improve the integration of the PlayStation 4 with the PlayStation Move and PS Camera.

Current Project Morpheus prototype is equipped with a screen with 1080p resolution and field of view of 90 degrees, gyroscopes, accelerometers and related accessories, and brings a new 3D audio technology that produces sound in all directions and changes it depending on the position of the player's head. Yoshida has confirmed that the Project Morpheus was started three years ago and that all GDC's visitors will be able to try it out.
