Ever since the announcement of Windows 8 there has been a renewed push for gaming on Linux. We saw one game developer even go so far as to make their own semi-customized flavor of Linux in the form of the SeamOS. Although interest in Linux gaming has tailored off due to delays in the “Steam Box” and other problems (lack of games) we are hearing that at least one very popular AAA title will be coming to Linux.

One sad thing about the gaming world is the far too many great development studios seem to fade away and be absorbed by the big companies. If you look at the past we can see this repeated over and over again. One of the most recent to be assimilated is Irrational Games. This dev house was, in many ways, the spiritual successor of Looking Glass Studios who was responsible for the original System Shock and Thief. These two games gave us entirely new ways to move through a game world and have been the inspiration for a number of games since then.

Why do the really great game development companies seem to disappear? If you have been around for a while you might remember a game development company by the name of Looking Glass Studios. This company is responsible for titles like Thief: the Dark Project, Thief II: The Metal Age and System Shock 1 and 2. These games were amazing for their time (and still are today) with concepts that brought about a new thought process in what a first person game could be.

One of our readers sent this one in and it looks like it is a pretty nice one. It looks like Amazon is offering Bioshock Infinite for only $9.99 in digital format. This download is only for the PC and we are not sure if there is any time limit on the deal, so we recommend that you grab this one while you can.

After the Games For Windows LIVE Marketplace was closed in August, many titles were left without adequate support, including BioShock 2. Therefore, the developers made some changes over the past few months and from yesterday BioShock 2 is available through Steam, including all content related to multiplayer and DLC Protector Trials.

Official cover art for Bioshock Infinite

The franchise Bioshock has often be described as the spiritual successor to the original SystemShock Series. Because of this there was a high expectation to meet simply because of the quality of both the original and the follow on to SystemShock. Fortunately for us the team (some actually worked on the original at Looking Glass Studios) was more than up to the task and we have had three excellent games from this team. Now, we are both excited and a little worried about Bioshock as they are talking about moving to an “episode” model for this great game.

Bioshock Infinite PC Version First Impressions

BSI-Intro

First off, let me say that I don’t buy brand new PC games very often.  I buy them even less often on release day, and even rarer is the occasion when I find myself actually sitting at the computer watching the clock for the official release time so the game will unlock.  Having said that, for some games there really isn’t another option.

Bioshock-infinite-logoIn more software news it looks like the eagerly anticipate release of Bioshock Infinite is going to be pushed back a few months. Originally the game was meant to launch in October, but now has been pushed back to late February 2013. This delay has gotten some annoyed while others appear to welcome it, if it means a better game.
