There are rumblings on the internet that all might not be well with EA after a round of password reset notices appear to have been sent out on Sunday (8-13-2015). EA does not give a specific reason behind the reset notifications other than suspicious activity. However, the timing seems to correlate with an authentication exploit that has been talked about on the darker side of the internet. These claims are that a group has been silently exploiting EA’s authentication servers for months. It is far from certain that EA has suffered a large-scale breach, but it does bring up the subject of authentication server security.

Remember all of the jokes about EA putting out games before they were ready? I do and many of them were very funny. Apparently someone at EA might have read them too and while we can picture them having an amused chuckle at first they might have also been a little concerned. Around the time that E3 was happening EA made comments to the effect that they would no longer push games out the door before they were ready. The term “free to play” has often been parodied as “free to pay” by gamers that feel this new system of timers and locks is something that is just not a good business model. Fortunately it is not a model that has managed to spread through the entire market, but is one that is certainly entrenched in the mobile one. This means there are plenty of combination moves to ensure that you maintain momentum and can make that next jump. Mirror’s Edge was also noteworthy for its open environment and different first person viewpoint (it was much closer to a real first person view).
