Thermaltake goes back to basics at CES 2014

CES 2014, Las Vegas, Nevada – During our visit to the Thermaltake suite we had the chance to see some of the new products that will be hitting the market and what we saw was pretty impressive. To kick things off Shannon Rob walked us through two new cases that are tailored to the enthusiast on many levels. The first up on the plate was the Urban T81. This roomy enclosure can be setup for use with air cooling or water (even a massive water rig). I know that many of our modding friends will be drooling over this one and its little brother the V71. Shannon does a great job of walking us through the highlights in our video coverage (if you can get past the background noise).

CES 2014 – Las Vegas, Nevada. As we mentioned in another article it seems that CES is living up to its name as it becomes more and more about consumer electronics (gadgets, TVs, Mobile etc) and the computer industry moves into the background. So with that in mind, just what is going to be the “big thing” at CES 2014? Will we see something PC related as the darling of the show or will we find another item that steals interest and what everyone will be talking about.

During the days leading up to CES 2014 there has been a lot of talk about how much the show has changed. Although tagged with the Consumer Electronics Show label the show is becoming dominated by items that, while loosely related, are not electronics at all. I am talking about entire pavilions filled with phone cases, battery packs, lanyards etc. These items are accessories to the products we buy, but in reality they have no real place a show like CES. This has led some to long for the days of COMDEX (Computer Dealer’s Exhibition).

Samsung has started sales of a giant 110 inch TV screen that comes in ultra-high, or as we like to call it "4K", resolution. This model outperformed the largest ever Samsung UHDTV in sales that came with a diagonal of 85 inches.

Samsung plans to introduce a new model of UltraHD TV at CES in 2013, the screen diagonal will be an impressive 85 inches (216 cm), which is an inch bigger screen than the competition from LG. So far it is not known when Samsung will bring their T  to the market and for what price (LG's model costs $ 20,000).

Ladies, you've got to get to CES 2013!

barbiecomputerIf you're in the industry and you've never gone to CES, make 2013 your year. We ladies are under-represented in a big way. CEA does not report on gender demographics, but by my visual estimation I'd say ladies made up no more than 5% of exhibitors and attendees (no offense to them, but I'm not counting booth babes). What's happening here? Soap box aside, we are simply a bigger slice of the pie. And while I could well get lost in satisfying my curiosity about all the reasons why, that's not really the point. The point is, CES needs us and we need CES.

The Ladies of CES 2012

_MG_7270CES 2012 Las Vegas Nevada - As with anything related to technology we had to stop and admire the new "look" of some of the booths. We found that this year companies actually went far enough to teach the shopw models something about the product. Unfortunately a lunch on Friday (and the show closing at 4 instead of 6PM) limitefd the amount of time we had to capture this very important part of any CES visit.

CES-logoFor part II of our pre-CES coverage we wanted to talk about some of the hype that goes into the largest consumer electronics show in the United States. I am not just talking about holding it in Las Vegas where the Elvis Impersonators and alcohol flows; I am talking about the lengths companies go to get people of all ages interested. The most common methods are of course the free stuff and the booth babes (which always end up being a big hit with the tech sites). In some cases companies resort to the allure of famous personalities.

What to expect from CES 2012 Part I

CES-logoThe Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 kicks off in three days. At that time a multitude (you might even call it a plethora) of consumer electronics companies will head to Las Vegas in an attempt to get the masses that attend interested in their new products. Amongst the many regular attendees will be purchasing agents from big companies like Best Buy, Fry’s Target and many others. Sandwiched in there as well will be various media outlets from the Internet, Print and even TV.  All of this will go to make a merry chaotic environment that will be difficult if not impossible to comprehend.
