2K’s NBA 2K13 making franchise record sales

As expected the 2K Sport's basketball simulation has started to sell like crazy and has already set a record sales for this franchise. In the first week they managed to sell 49% more copies that the previous fastest seller NBA 2K11. They said that “This record-shattering growth is due in part to the expanding global popularity of the NBA 2K brand, which accounted for a 66 percent increase in international sales as compared with NBA 2K11”, but obviously that's not the only thing that helped.

What Is Happening To the Gaming Market

Over the last week (and over the weekend) there were two significant rumors in the gaming industry that may be cause for concern. OnLive, a cloud gaming company, first showed indications that it was having financial trouble when reports surfaced that they had laid off all of their employees in a single movement. This move was enough for the tech world to speculate that OnLive was going under. However, it was later revealed that all of their employees were let go in order to pave the way for a buyout by an unnamed company

Remember how we told you that Microsoft was going to pull out all of the PR and marketing tricks they can muster to try and convince people that Windows 8 is a good thing? Well now they are trying to counter the effects of the recent comments by top names in gaming; most notably Gabe Newell of Valve and John Carmack of id. If you do not remember what these two said we will boil it down here. Gabe Newell stated that Windows 8 was a “catastrophe” which John Carmack stated there was “no reason to upgrade”.
