Although many think that the dangers of bills such as SOPA and PIPA are dead and gone they are not. In fact far from it and to make matters worse the ISPs are now getting in on the action and playing a role that they were never intended to. To add insult to injury these same ISPs are complaining about the government trying to control them by regulating how they can treat traffic on their networks. Yet we have word from one of our sources that Time Warner is conducting random scans for certain traffic profiles. These scans are looking for certain protocols, file sizes and file types. If they find something that gives a return… well things get a little uglier from there.

Webhost found guilty because of SumoTorrent

sumo

The Dutch anti-piracy organization Brein has won a multi-year effort after a big court victory that could have far-reaching consequences for hosting companies in the EU and perhaps in the world. According to a verdict from the International Court of Justice in Hague, which is in charge of the process because XS Networks was found responsible for copyright infringement simply for hosting the Sumo Torrent site, the court gave the right to Brein to shut down XS Networks.

The Pirate Bay Is Sailing Into The Cloud

piratecloud

After their past server hosting provider PRQ got raided by the feds, The Pirate Bay decided to make a move towards protecting themselves. They announced this move in a very theatrical blog post “So, first we ditched the trackers. Then we got rid of the torrents. Now? Now we've gotten rid of the servers. Slowly and steadily we are getting rid of our earthly form and ascending into the next stage, the cloud.” Even though the whole movement only caused a small 5 minute outage, it was quite a big job to do it.

The Pirate bay back online after 2 days of downtime

news pirate-bay-logo

After almost 2 days The Pirate Bay is back online. There is no reason for concern as the problem was just a broken power distribution unit. The power went off on Monday and it seemed like it was just a standard blackout that happens every few weeks. However, the problem was in a power distribution unit at their data center and considering kind of data the The Pirate Bay has they decided that someone who they know should replace the broken part. They decided it was too risky for them to let a random employee from the hosting facility to fix this issue, so they took their time to do it themselves.

Will Demonoid come back in the future

demonoid-logo

With all of the hype going on around recent news conferences from big companies (like Intel, Microsoft and Apple), not so many people noticed that Demonoid’s domain name servers were updated.  Even though that doesn’t mean they are coming back it is still a small sign that they are not completely dead. Demonoid's tech admin said that they are “not looking into putting the site back up at the moment.” The Site was taken down last month after they were DDoS-ed. Demonoid was hosted in the Ukraine and local authorities stated that Interpol asked them to take action against the site owners that were in Mexico.

Pirate Bay founder coming home

news pirate-bay-logo

Gottfrid Svartholm has been imprisoned in Cambodia for over a week and now it looks like authorities have finally arranged his transfer to Sweden. Bertil Olofsson, Head of the International Section of the National Police said that Svartholm is indeed coming back. The problem is that there are no direct flights from Cambodia's capital Penh to Sweden. Because of this they will first have to travel to Bangkok, Thailand and then fly to Sweden. During the flight he will be escorted by a police officer and official from the prison service.

Time to say goodbye to Demonoid?

demonoid-logo

Even though everyone was hoping for resurrection of one of the most famous torrent sites, things are looking pretty grim. The three domains on which Demonoid’s web page was available are currently for sale. There was a small hope that Demonoid had reserve servers to continue to work but Demonoid.com, .se, and .ph have been put on the market at Sedo. The responsibility for closing this tracker was taken by IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).

There is one thing about the hacking world that is a constant, everything changes. We have seen anti-anonymous and Anti-Wikileaks groups come and go from individuals like The Jester to others that claim they were once with Anonymous, but now have seen the error of their ways and are working for the good of the world. These groups all have one thing in common; they are rarely effective for long. This is not to say they do not have skill or talent. In some cases they are very talented. However their effects are rarely long term.
