Western Digital's company  Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) presented the currently biggest hard drive for notebooks. Model Travelstar 5K1500 comes in a 2.5 inch format and a thickness of 9.5 mm, it delivers 1.5 TB capacity and size is suitable for installation in most notebooks with "normal" thickness.

The disc is made up from three panels that rotate at 5,400 rpm and has a 32MB cache and interface SATA 6 Gb/s. HGST highlights the low power consumption, durability and resistance to shock (400 G/2 ms when operating and 1,000 G/1 ms when transferring) and the subsequent availability of selfcrypting models (TCG Opal specification) and EA versions for servers, networking equipment, video surveillance systems and similar applications.

Standard version of Travelstar 5K1500 should be found in sales during the next month, while selfcrypting and EA version will be available in the third quarter of this year.
