According to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources "familiar with the thinking mobile operators", U.S. AT&T is considering expansion into the European market. The expansion of the company, if they decide to, should come to an end this year, sources said.

Analysts feel that this risky more by AT&T was made because of the desire to attain an advantage over other U.S. mobile operators. The most promising option for starting a business in Europe for AT&T would be the acquisition of a European mobile operator. Negotiations on this have not yet started, but they are currently considering potential candidates for acquisition in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

This move by AT&T could make it possible for them to circumvent growth limitations that govern the U.S. market. On the European market, the company could offer advanced technology and attractive pricing compared to the competition, analysts said.
