According to Korean newspapers, LG is preparing the successor of its smartphone the Optimus G. A new device that will compete with Samsung's Galaxy S IV should be launched in about 6 months. It is not yet known what name it will carry, but we will call it the Optimus G2 for now since the G one is their top model. The new device should be a high end smartphone with some impressive features.

The Optimus G2, according to sources close to LG, should have a 5-inch screen with full HD resolution. The screen will have a density of 440 ppi which is apparently standard for next year's smartphones in the highest class. The G2 should also have a 2-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime quad-core and support for LTE networks. The new device should appear in May next year.

So far there's HTC's 5-inch smartphone with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and it is mentioned that Samsung is beginning production of screens that will be used in the new line of their Galaxy S smartphones. There are also rumors about other manufacturers like Nokia and ZTE regarding the new 5-inch full HD smartphones so we can say that next year that will certainly become the standard smartphone resolution.

Do you think that 1920x1080 will be the new standard resolution? Tell us your thoughts in our Forum
