Just as we wrote about Minecraft creator Persson and his refusal to release a Minecraft version for Windows 8, they marked a 4 million sales milestone for their Xbox 360 version of the game. 4J Studios tweeted “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has passed 4 million sales! Incredible number, thanks to you all!”. With numbers constantly increasing it's not really a big deal for them to decide not to support newest Windows.

The 4 million mark was hit around five months after they released the Xbox 360 edition and Minecraft has certainly become one of the most popular indie games ever. The price for the Xbox live version of the game is $20, and even though many critics considered it too much for this kind of a game they get more and more customers daily. Just imagine how fast they would reach 4 million if the price was even lower.

Currently the PC versions sales are around 7.5 million, making it 11.5 million combined with the Xbox 360 which is quite impressive considering it comes from a small studio. Also it will probably increase even more as the game gains more popularity every day. There are also iOS and Android versions of the game; Minecraft Pocket Edition although there are no numbers on their sales so far, but considering the other versions results we expect the numbers to also be decent. The PC version is available directly from Minecraft.net or at physical stores via Mojang prepaid gift cards for $26.95 so you can see for yourself if the game's popularity is justified.
