Windows 8 RTM Leaked; Again...

win8logoredesigned

Russian leaker WZOR confirmed yesterday that he is in possesion of both x86 and x 64 Windows 8 Enterprise RTM. He stated that they will leak these to the web anytime and that the "Pro" versions (both x64 and x86) can also be expected in near future. This version differs from the earlier "N" editions by not having Windows Media Player stripped out. Windows Server 2012 was also leaked yesterday via the same source, and will probably be available together with Windows 8 RTM leaked versions on popular torrent sites, and similar sources.

Google Fiber Starting Strong

google-fiber

Only one week was needed for Google Fiber to take off in Kansas City (Kansas and Missouri).  46 designated „fiberhoods“ were qualified for the service as it was reported on the Google Fiber site. A week ago Google's fiber-to-the-home network was announced offering speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second along with TV service. They started the project in neighborhoods that showed the most interest based on pre-registration for the service (and a US$10 fee).

False news about Olympic scandal used to spread malware

top-10-computer-viruses-631

Leveraging the hype around the 2012 Olympics in London cyber criminals are pushing out malware via spam emails claiming that Gabrielle Douglas, who won a gold medal in Women's  Gymnastics All Around, will face lifetime ban from sport.  Obviously they are expecting that false news about doping scandals will help a lot in spreading the malware. The email is suggesting a link that will open up a false youtube page and prompt you to download  Adobe Flash plugin to view the content. Sophos, which first reported on this spam, detects the malware as Troj/Agent-XIK and Troj/JSRedir-IA.

Xbox 720 Info Possibly Leaked

Xbox 720 info leaked

Information about the next-gen xbox console has been leaked, giving a pretty good representation of what we can expect from Microsoft for their next system. Somebody using the alias DaE tried to sell the console, code named “Durango”, for a large price of $10,000 on the Assemblers Game Forum last weekend, but their posting was quickly deleted and their rights to post on the forum were revoked.

Valve takes interest in Linux for the source engine

Valve takes interest in Linux

As of late Valve has been running experiments with their successful source engine on Linux. Although it runs well in a Windows environment a relatively large gain has been seen using Linux. Valve used a system with an i7 3930k CPU, a beefy Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 and a healthy dose of 32gb RAM to top off the test rig. The two operating systems of choice were Windows 7 64 bit (SP 1) against Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit. Valve mentions in their new Linux Blog that although they did use a 32 bit version of Ubuntu they will switch to a 64 bit version for future testing.
