Judge Posner Rejects Apple's Bid to Ban Motorola Phones

73Apple appears to have had a little bit of a set back in court yesterday as Judge Richard Posner (the same one that threw Apple’s complaint about a week ago) told Apple quite simply that imposing a sales ban on Motorola’s products would have catastrophic effects. This type of decision is happening more and more where one company demands a ban on the other. What the legal system is waking up to is that the ban on imports and sales are hurting businesses and the economy. They are also beginning to understand that the threat of a ban is not being used to protect IP, but to limit competition.

New Gigapixel Camera Shown Off At Duke

OB-TL305_0620ca_G_20120620114912As something of a photography buff I like reading about new imaging technology and of course I am always checking out the next best thing in digital cameras to come out. So when I read that someone had created a Gigapixel camera I had to find out more about it. Yes I said Gigapixel as in 1,000 Mega Pixels. The amazing new device was put together by scientists at Duke University and while it represents an amazing leap forward it is not quite ready for the market.

Microsoft Lists Phone Makers For Launch, Confirms No Upgrade to WP8 for WP7

WindowsPhoneOk so here we are with part two of the Windows Phone 8 information. Microsoft has released the list of phone makers that will be supporting Windows Phone 8 at launch (still listed as “this fall”). The list was surprisingly short with only Nokia, Samsung, Huawei and HTC on the list. HTC is interesting as they were not allowed to make a Windows RT tablet which is what Windows Phone 8 gets the majority of its structure from. In addition to the listing of phone makers, Microsoft also announced that the SoC supplier would be Qualcomm which suggests that we are looking at a controlled BOM for the first round of phones.

Microsoft Makes Windows Phone 8 Semi-Offiical; OS Out, But No Hardware Information

WP8-BizMicrosoft has made Windows Phone 8 semi-official at its Windows Phone Developer Conference happening right now. We call it semi-official because right now Microsoft is not showing off any hardware running it. They are waiting to have that announcement later. So while the OS is out of the bag and we have some new information no one has made any specific announcements of support for the new OS.

The Electronic Fontier Foundation Wants to Scrap the Software Patent System

eff-introWe have to say that with all of the non-profit organizations out there one of our favorite is the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They have been at the forefront of the battle for user data security, privacy and have fought many battles against the rather abusive (and redundant) copyright system. Now they are doing something very proactive instead of the more typical defense against the increasingly preposterous machine that makes up the corporate world.
