Researchers find a way to place a single atom transitor with atomic level precision

atomic_transIf you are a fan of the Douglas Adams book, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (and others in the five book trilogy) then you are familiar with the great super computer Deep Though and the computer that it built to provide the question to The Ultimate Answer of Life the Universe and Everything. This was a gigantic computer that was so big it was often mistaken for a planet. It also incorporated organic life in it design (If I have lost you here don’t worry I promise I am getting to the point soon). Now in the real world researchers have found a way to use naturally occurring atomic particles to form the basis for microprocessors.

Anonymous Threatens to Shut Off the Internet on March 31st, But How?

anonAnonymous is preparing to “shut off the internet” on March 31st. The move is in protest to things like SOPA, ACTA, and according to their statement; “irresponsible leaders and the beloved bankers who are starving the world for their own selfish needs out of sheer sadistic fun”. Now while Anonymous typically goes after targets with something along the lines of a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack they are looking to do something different here. Anonymous plans to take all 13 Root DNS servers offline in a single day. Is this possible? Well let’s take a look at some of the facts behind how DNS works and some evidence that Anonymous might already have broken into the system.

Apple's iPad could be banned from Export in China

animal_farm-pigsApple has been playing a dangerous game for some time now. They have been filing ambiguous patents and copyrights in the hopes that they can protect their mobile devices. For the most part this strategy was working just fine for Apple until a few Judges began to notice a pattern of suppression in their efforts. That was a turning point in Apple legal battles against companies like Samsung, HTC and others in the Android family. Now, however, Apple is facing something they never expected; a smaller corporation is fighting for the copyright they already have on the iPad.

Graphics CTO Eric Demers leaves AMD

AMD_logoAMD has lost another high-level employee today. This time in the form of Eric Demers CTO of the AMD graphics division; although I have never met Eric I have heard of him from others and it seems there are mixed feelings about the impact this will have on AMD. Some are saying that there will be no immediate impact. This is probably true as AMD’s GPU business is mapped out until at least the end of 2012.
