OCZ decided to make certain changes in their Vertex 3 series SSDs, which should make these products come at a more affordable price. These modified devices are branded Vertex 3.20, and as the specifications are concerned they are equal to standard SSD's with the exception of NAND type of memory and come in a 2.5” format.

OCZ now incorporates 20 nanometer NAND in the Vertex 3.20, which is cheaper, and therefore lowers production costs and ultimately the price of the final product. They will initially be available in 120 and 240 gigabyte versions, based on the SandForce SF-2200 controller later we can expect a 480 gigabyte model to hit the market.

Daryl Lang, Senior Vice President of Product Management for OCZ Technology  said that “The Vertex 3 has been a popular SSD series among consumers and implementing the newer, smaller process geometry will not only extend its life, but enables mainstream users with an excellent computing experience at a competitive price point.”

OCZ says the speed of reading and writing data are from the 550 and 520 MB/s and 35,000 and 65,000 IOPS. Vertex 3.20 in the announced versions of the 120 and 240 GB should be on sale soon, but the company has not yet announced pricing of the new devices.
