AMD fans might have some good news for them in the next few months. It seems that one of the geniuses that helped to bring the K7 and K8 CPUs to the world, Jim Keller, is back at AMD and will be working on the next generation of CPUs and APUs. AMD (as many will remember) got themselves into trouble after they scooped up ATi for a cool $5.4 Billion dollars. This move was intended to bring AMD more in line with what Intel had (and had planned). In the end the buyout hurt both AMD and ATi putting both behind their rivals for more than a few years.

In development it has always been a given that if you can code for a specific build of materials or specific hardware platform you can usually get more out of the application you are developing. Nowhere was this more evident than when RISC CPUS were on the market. At the time that DEC Alpha was king we saw a 667MHz CPU slamming 1GHz processors from both AMD and Intel. The reason for this was that the software was specifically coded to take advantage of that platform.

At AMD’s press conference during Computex 2014 they showed off their new Kaveri mobile CPUs and made some pretty bold claims. The first of which was that these new APUs were ready and able to be compared directly to Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs and in many cases beat them in terms of performance. The Kaveri line up is not exactly new as the desktop flavors were launched last year, however AMD is saying that the new mobile versions are something very special.

PowerColor has introduced a graphics card LCS R9 290X, which comes with 4GB of GDDR5 memory and water cooling. PowerColor graphics card is currently only (R9 Radeon 290X) on the market that instead of cooling fan has water cooling. It is composed of a closed block within which there is coolant, completely covering all the built-in components and keeping them at temperatures below 60 degrees Celsius even under maximum load.

AMD has already developed dual-processor graphics card based on chip codenamed Hawaii, at least accroding to unofficial sources, which also state that the card is codenamed Vesuvius. When it appears on the market, it will most likely be the fastest and most expensive solution for demanding gamers and record breakers.

The AMD R9 290X has arrived

AMD has finally officially unveiled their latest flagship graphics card R9 290X. Thanks to the official presentation of R9 290X all previously unknown features are finally revealed. AMD's graphics card will have 2816 stream processors, 512 bit memory bus and 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
