According to Bloomberg, Google's application store (Google Play) has grown to over 700,000 titles. Hereby, Apple has lost the advantage according to the number of applications available for the platform, and is now tied with Google. The Android giant has certainly done some work to improve their numbers, like publishing guides for developers on how to develop the games specifically for Android, or just port them to it from other platforms.

Google's upcoming phone, the Nexus 4 will launch at an extremely competitive price of $299.00 with no contract. How did they get the price so low? Part of the answer is its lack of America's favorite 4G network, LTE. That's correct, it will be a 3G/WIFI only device. It will lauch with Android 4.2, and a quad core Snapdragon 1.5 Ghz processor, which will make processing material on the phone quite fast. But, anything that needs to be downloaded will be at roughly the same speeds users experience on their networks now with their current smart phones.

Google has released details regarding the next version of Android. This news has contains information on both hardware and software. As well as on tablets and smartphones, but there was little that was not known previously. Google has introduced a 10-inch tablet in the Nexus line, which Google will try to market to the budget crowd. As expected the device manufacturer is Samsung and will have a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels with a density of 300 pixels per inch. The processor is a dual-core Cortex-A15, Mali T604 graphics, and a 9,000 mAh battery should provide up to nine hours of HD video playback. The rear camera has a resolution of five megapixels, while the front is 1.9 megapixels. The suggested retail price for a 16-gigabyte version in the U.S. is $400, while the 32GB model sells at a price of $ 500.

If you have been waiting for the Samsung Note 2, wait no more! Sprint and T-Mobile are now both offering the 16GB version of the Titanium Gray or White Note 2. Both of these providers technically have unlimited data, and they are both the only way to get the Note 2 at this time.

Who has the most apps? The best apps? Does Apple or Android make more money from their apps? Who has more developers? Which platform offers more free apps? Hardware aside, these are all all important issues to consider when purchasing a new phone. After all, phones are now a versatile mobile computing platform that can hardly be referred to as just a “phone” any longer.

Android users have a lot to be happy about. Despite all the awesome that is Android, there are the occasional bumps in the road. One of the more hilarious of these problems is the tendency for Android phones to display incorrect timestamps on text messages under certain conditions. Sometimes, it can appear as if your friend has texted you from several hours in the future. Sometimes in the past.

It looks like Google will bring quite few new things to their next event; a new Nexus tablets and Android 4.2 are to be announced. Some of the most anticipated things are the new Nexus 7 tablets with 3G connectivity and a 10-inch Nexus tablet. There will be also a Nexus reference coming from LG. A 32GB version of the Nexus 7 is apparently confirmed to be revealed, which should achieve great success as customers have shown great interest in it. Like it was not enough that they pretty much ruined the basic version of Android with their apps and add-ons like Walkman, now Sony has announced that some of their Xperia devices won’t even get a Jelly Bean upgrade. This will certainly be more than disappointing for their usersand they can’t do anything but hope that things will change later in 2013. However, until early 2013 no changes will be made. Some of the devices will not be getting the update at all.

As Facebook looks for a new ways of making money they have introduced the Android Software Development Kit and Developers center. They have prepared Facebook widgets for app developers to implement into their apps. They also provided guides for building in friends so you can annoy your friends with app requests once they are done.  As they stated on their site “This release includes several tools that simplify authentication and authorization, including a Fragment and a Button that manage login state automatically.”

Isn’t it nice when you can share something with other smartphone users just by tapping your phones together? Well, if we consider the popularity that near field technology is getting it could be the “go-to” close range sharing technology. So far it's mostly found on Android devices, but Apple won’t sit idle on this one. Now they were given a patent on technology similar to what is already available with NFC but apparently different enough. It looks like the smartphone war is just warming up.
