Even though the international (Austria, Spain, France and Romania) Galaxy S3 owners already have gotten the update for their device to latest Android software, US owners will have to wait a bit more. According to Samsung, the update will be rolled out in the coming months, but they didnt want to give specific dates. For more information customers will have to wait for the announcements from their carriers. The main problem with new Android versions is that companies like Samsung prefer to add something unique like their TouchWiz, so it takes longer to get the latest updates for this custom operating systems.

Rough start for Xperia tablets

sony

Sony has decided to stop sales of their Xperia tablet as they have found certain defects in some units. They announced that their tablet is water resistant, and then they found a gap between the screen and the case of a tablet, I guess water can pass through the gaps. So after this ironic problem occurred Sony was quick to react and stop sales to prevent their users from being disappointed with this rather big flaw. The tablet went on sale September 8 in the North America and the launch in Japan, Europe and other countries followed in the days after that.

Google asking for more focus on tablets

android-logo-33

Earlier this year Google released its first tablet, the Nexus 7, and now they are asking developers to build more apps optimized for tablets. Today they published a “tablet app quality checklist” on their android developers’ blog. They hope this will help them gain more buyers and with the developers help, they won’t have to worry about not having enough apps for their tablets. Currently there is a really small amount of apps made specifically for tablets. This initiative should bring more of them to the larger displays.

Apple Maps; You Can’t Get There From Here

14621rotten apple

So the iPhone 5 is here, the sales numbers are in and while the new phone from Apple is doing well it is actually falling short of analyst predictions and in some cases consumer expectation. One of the key areas is the new Maps App. Until recently Apple utilized Google Maps for iOS. However, with their ongoing war against all things Android Apple has started systematically dropping anything developed by the Advertising giant.  So far we have YouTube and Maps that are gone from the official version of iOS and we are sure that more items will start to drop or perhaps get rejected by the content police that Apple employs.

Super cheap Android based tablets are getting their new version and now it's even cheaper, well only by $5, but when you get a tablet for $35 who the hell cares. You are probably already opening eBay and searching for it, but hold on a second. It's only available in India, and their government started this project to provide their students a cheap device to help them with studies. The tablet is manufactured in the UK, by the company DataWind and it should be arriving in India next month.

Today was supposed to be Apple’s big day in the sun yet from most of the coverage on the internet there is very little truly new in the iPhone 5. Even Apple’s stock did not move much after the new phone was announced this was something that many analysts predicted might happen if the new iPhone did not have compelling features. Right now taking a look at Apple’s iPhone 5 all you are getting is a new OS (iOS 6) and a new connector that is actually pretty cool. However outside of that you are not getting much to be happy about we have already covered the specifications on the new iPhone, but now let’s see what these new specifications mean in the real world and to the consumer.

Instagram on Windows Phone 8

nokia instagram

It looks like we will have the Instagram app on new Windows Phone 8 devices. The Famous Photo editing and sharing application has recently been purchased by Facebook and this is could be a sign that they are keeping their independency. The app is available for both Android and iOS for free currently and according to multiple sources it should be coming to new the Windows platform by the end of the year. The interesting thing is that the app is apparently produced by Microsoft. The main reason for it is that the Instagram team doesn’t feel that their time and work is worth producing app for this struggling mobile OS.

After Nokia finished with presenting their new Lumias, everyone was wondering when they would officially come to stores. According to new rumors, the Lumia should arrive already officially on November 2nd. For quite some time Nokia was in a near death state and it was harder to believe with every moment that they were able to get out of despair. With or without WP8 people simply lost trust in the company. The first results of the Nokia and Microsoft partnership were the Lumia 800 and 710 which came at the end of 2011 beginning of 2012. They came with new Windows Phone 7 and failed pretty hard. They just couldn’t find customers with the competition from iOS and Android devices. To make it easier for you to get perspective, Nokia sales were around 10 times lower than iPhone's. That was a huge slap in the face to both Nokia and Microsoft. Today they presented us two new Lumias; the 920 and 820 models. These two phones could be what Nokia needs to come back from the dead, but if things don’t go as planned we just can’t see what else could save them.

HTC reserving September 19 for their mysterious event

htc

Since practically every single smartphone powerhouse has announced their big events, HTC just had to join the masses. They have decided to keep everything veiled by mystery, but some rumors are that it could include Windows Phone 8. The event will take place in New York City starting at 11:30 AM EST. The announcement states “Join HTC to see  what's next”, and if rumors of a WP8 device are true they could fall in the shadow of Nokia’s new Lumia devices that will be presented tomorrow, also in New York. There are three HTC devices that are expected to be revealed, from entry-level to new flagship range.
