According to many, one of the biggest downsides of the Windows Phonea is a lack of applications, but at Microsoft they are working on fixing this problem. They recently announced that the platform now has over 145,000 titles available.

BlackBerry regularly praises growing number of applications for BlackBerry 10, a mobile platform on which their success very directly depends. However, skeptics say that these are artificially inflated numbers in which the company adds the application for Android that support execution within the emulator built-in BlackBerry’s new mobile OS. Of the 70,000 applications that were supposedly launched in parallel with the BlackBerry 10, around 40% of them are intended for emulation mode, which is quite a lot, especially when you take into account that they work noticeably slower and worse than native applications, making them quite unusable.

BlackBerry sent out a report about the growing variety of applications for the BlackBerry 10 platform. According to the official statement, the owners of BlackBerry 10 devices now got on their hands over 100,000 applications within the BlackBerry World.
Microsoft’s Windows store hits 20k apps

The Windows Store has over 20,000 applications as announced by the Win App Update on their twitter feed. Of this number, according to the unofficial data, 87% are free of charge. Speaking at a London Game Conference, a Microsoft marketing manager Andrew Webber revealed another fact - until recently the Windows Store had fewer than 1,500 games (at the time of writing the text 1,615), in the category of racing there are only 13 of them.

The Windows 8 online store is growing bigger every day and so far they have reached a promising milestone. With all the Windows 8 devices coming out, it was just a matter of time before the apps accumulated; now they have 13,000 applications in their application store. In the past 8 days there was almost three thousand applications added, this means that it grew at a rate of 362 applications per day.
Google Play reaches 700,000 apps

According to Bloomberg, Google's application store (Google Play) has grown to over 700,000 titles. Hereby, Apple has lost the advantage according to the number of applications available for the platform, and is now tied with Google. The Android giant has certainly done some work to improve their numbers, like publishing guides for developers on how to develop the games specifically for Android, or just port them to it from other platforms.

After all, phones are now a versatile mobile computing platform that can hardly be referred to as just a “phone” any longer.
