This morning some news flitted across my desk that made me thing of an old TV commercial. In this ad an older man in a suit ask the question: “How do we measure success?” His response is: “One client at a time.” All of this is done in black and white for an even better impression. Now that I have gone off on a tangent I should probably explain what I am talking about. The news in question was a bit of information stating that Xbox One sales had nearly doubled. The reason, Microsoft removed the Kinect from the bundle and cut the price.

Ubisoft dumbing down Watchdogs for PC, Crytek losing money, game devs claiming next gen consoles will match the graphical look of the PC on Ultra: all of these are interesting signs to a troubling possibility. Is the gaming industry moving away from the PC and focusing on the close environment of the console? From some of the information and the items we listed above it would seem so. Is this a trend of the future? Or is this simply what the industry does whenever they see new consoles hit the market?

After taking something of a beating in the news the other day with the revelation of locked features in Watchdogs, Ubisoft is back in the news today. However, today’s news is both good and bad for them. This time the title in question is Far Cry 4. Apparently Ubisoft is very fond of the current next gen consoles (Xbox One and PS4) and found them to be a great benefit when developing Far Cry 4.

Ed Fries, the father of the first Xbox said a few days ago that he likes the idea that every Xbox One is the same, because it is important for developers . According to him, problem with the previous version of the console (Xbox 360) was that some consoles were sold without hard drives. But now it looks like Fries did not know that his former colleagues at Microsoft are preparing a new, cheaper package of the Xbox One. From June 9, Kinectless Xbox One will go on sale.

Both Microsoft and Sony have announced details of their console sales in all markets in which they are possible to buy. Sony has sold a total of 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles, while Microsoft on a smaller market sold three million copies of Xbox One.

Over 3 million Xbox One consoles sold

From Microsoft officially announced that by the end of the 2013 they total delivered well over three million copies of Xbox One to 13 markets in which it was possible to buy a console.

In a move that would have made Steve Jobs proud Microsoft is apparently leaning on developers to only develop for their Xbox One platform or delay any release for other console platforms. The news comes as developer Witch Beam, is claiming that due to restrictions in the ID@Xbox program they are being forced to delay their new game Assault Android Cactus because they already have plans to launch games on other consoles.

Problems with Xbox One's optical drive

PlayStation 4 had so called Blue Light of Death, and it seems that even the launch of Xbox One can't go without much problems that are "affectionately" called Disc Drive of Death. Specifically, a small number of Xbox one owners got the console with a defective optical drive.

Unlike the Xbox 360, which on the surface could be set up horizontally or vertically, Xbox One is designed exclusively for horizontal position and if users decide to set up the console to the upright position they might end up in some serious problems.

Witcher 3 officially confirmed

Game Informer magazine, as usual, got the chance to discover another big hit about to be released to the world. This time it is the highly anticipated RPG, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which will be launched next year. The game is made in a completely open style which was expected after the recent creations of the new REDenginea 3. This new engine is described as an ideal entry point to the Witcher world for players that have not meet with the franchise yet.
