If you believe the rumors going around the internet, HTC is working on the development of the tablet device with Windows RT; at least according to sources close to HTC. After they released their WP8 devices, named 8S and 8X it looks like they will indulge even deeper into collaboration with Microsoft. HTC decided earlier this month to give up on increasing the screen size of their WP8 smartphones and now they are turning to tablets.

Are we getting a cheaper Nexus 7?

P 500

According to some rumors, Google wants to offer a tablet for those with shallower pockets, priced at around $99. The tablet would be similar to the current Nexus 7, produced by Asus, but it would have weaker hardware. How did we reach the hardware characteristics? On the web appeared a GLBenchmark for a certain tablet under the name "Asus ME172V", which some consider to be a future entry-level Nexus 7 (or one that has been assigned the name) from Asus’ workshops.

Titan officially the fastest computer in the world

titan

The Titan, a supercomputer that was created by adding nVidia's Tesla GPUs to existing AMD Opterons in the Jaguar supercomputer, has become officially the fastest supercomputer in the world. The Titan system installed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the U.S. came out on top as expected, with amazing performance of 17.52 petaflops. U.S Secretary of Energy Steven Chu  indicated that “The nation that leads the world in high-performance computing will have an enormous competitive advantage across a broad range of sectors, including national defense, science and medicine, energy production, transmission and distribution, storm weather and climate prediction, finance, commercial product development, and manufacturing“, and without a doubt Titan will bring that.

AMD logo

Yesterday AMD made an announcement that has been in the works for some time and one that we predicted would happen. Late last year as AMD began to change their direction we noticed that AMD was solidifying their partnerships with Texas Instrument, Samsung and a few others who they have always maintained close ties with. AMD had also publicly stated that they were no longer going to compete with Intel head to head in the high-end market but that they were going to work on more power efficient solutions while improving their current offerings for the data center (trying to get more CPU cycles with less power). At the time we felt that AMD was preparing to build their own SoC (System on Chip) offerings we also felt that it was likely that AMD would build both x86 and ARM versions. The last piece of the puzzle was AMD licensing ARM technology (originally AMD claimed this was for use inside their CPUs to handle security).

titan

Cray's new supercomputer has been brought to life in America at the ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) which operates under the U.S. Department of Energy. Titan is capable of delivering more than 20 petaflops of computational power and therefore represents the world's most powerful supercomputer. It's the equivalent of the computing power from 500,000 laptops. The system is also known as the Cray XK7 and is used as an open science project.
