According to Bloomberg, Samsung will present their smart watch at the beginning of September. The device named Galaxy Gear will reportedly allow owners to make telephone calls, have internet access, and display e-mail, according to Bloomberg, citing two people familiar with the whole thing. The device should be presented at the event on 4th of September, two days before the opening of the IFA in Berlin.

For those of us that are either a little older or who simply follow the goings on of Captain James T. Kirk the news that Microsoft might be making a smart watch out of translucent aluminum very interesting. This material was predicted in one of the Star Trek Movies (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). It seems that Microsoft may think that by using exotic materials they can garner the attention of the market. The problem with this logic is that it has not really worked out for them so far. With the Surface (RT) their VaporMag casing did not help in powering sales and might have hurt them as there were manufacturing issues while increased the cost per unit to manufacture them.

Apple in Japan recently requested a claim to the name (trademark) iWatch, which could represent a sign that his smart watch approaches it's final stage of production. But looks like the team from Cupertino will not create their smart watch and give it a name iWatch as easy as it was expected, because the trademark in some areas is already protected by other companies.

According to Want ChinaTimes, Terry Gou, head of Hon Hai, better known by the name Foxconn, presented a smart watch that is able to communicate with a user's smartphone at a meeting of shareholders. Gou said that “with such a device, you can keep your phone in your pocket and simply check all kinds of messages on your watch”.

While the Apple's and Google's smart watches are still just a story in the form of rumors, the competition is not sleeping. The latest product to market should show up in November this year and it is named Kreyos Meteor smart watch that works in cooperation with a wireless smart Android, Windows Phone 8 and iPhone phones.

Lately the news has been buzzing with the possibility of a new battle ground for Samsung and Apple. This is the Smart Watch arena and both companies appear to be preparing to fight it out here. Already Samsung has made their offering public well ahead of anything that we have heard from Apple… at least officially. On the rumor front we have heard that Apple might have a smart watch ready for their next release cycle. However, as the title suggests, both of these companies are very late to the party as the concept of the smart watch is not new.
