Sony's vice president of home entertainment, Hiroshi Sakamoto, in his statement to the Chilean website Emol, gave some clues that the PlayStation 4 could be presented before this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which takes place in June.

Sakamoto said that the date of release and presentation for the PlayStation 4 is still a big secret, but he stressed that the new PlayStation is evolving, and the only thing that can be said is that they are focused on E3, but the official announcements may come much earlier, in May.

Still even if the new PlayStation makes an appearance at E3, users will probably have to wait buy one until the end of the year. According to rumors that have been spread so far, the new PlayStation will be based on a special version of AMD's quad core processor A8-3850, 2.9 GHz clock speed, and 1GHz graphics card with 1 GB of memory.

[Ed – if the PS4 actually does come out before E3 Sony could get the jump on Microsoft with their next generation console. This could give them a slight lead simply because they have a new product out before anyone else does. This (if it happens) it could also impact Microsoft’s intended eco-system they want to build with Windows 8 and Windows RT. Of course it is possible that Microsoft will push out their next Xbox at E3 or slightly before simply to prevent this from happening.]
