Microsoft's console, the Xbox 360 has achieved a great milestone. They managed to sell 70 million consoles since the launch back in November 2005. This news comes from Microsoft’s fiscal first quarter (July 2012-September 2012) report and it shows Xbox post total revenue of $1.95 billion. This is just a small decrease of 1% from the last year. They managed to sell 1.7 million Xbox 360s worldwide during the last fiscal quarter, which is 29% lower than the last year, making it around 600,000 units less.

Even though they are slightly decreasing in sales Microsoft said that “Xbox continues to be the top-selling console in the U.S., where it now has 49% market share.” They also gave hints they will dump more money into research and development so we could possibly see a new console in the near future. However Microsoft has a pretty realistic view on the current market and is expecting a revenue decline in the coming quarter.  Xbox Live membership marked 15% more members during the last period but no new user milestone was announced.

As far as the Windows 8 launch is concerned Microsoft seems pretty enthusiastic “We're incredibly excited to be approaching general availability of Windows 8 and Windows RT. We've already certified more than 1,000 systems for Windows 8 from our hardware partners, ranging from the smallest tablets and convertibles to touch-enabled ultrabooks and all-in-ones to the most powerful desktop computers.” As Windows Phone 8 is coming too, they may recoup for the Xbox sales decline. For the holidays they will cut the Xbox 360 price to $50 and will also release two $250 bundles for hardcore gamers.
