Yesterday the big news was that Lenovo “bought” Motorola Mobility from Google for around $2.91 Billion dollars. This price tag is a far cry from the $12.5 Billion that Google originally paid for the handset maker. Something seems missing in the differences until you find out that Lenovo did not get the same thing that Google bought. All Lenovo is selling is the manufacturing capability and the brand name. The majority of Motorola’s assets are going to stay with Google.

Expected decline at Samsung

As expected, earnings of the Korean technology giant Samsung has dropped in the last quarter of 2013. Compared to the year before, the company's profit decreased by 6%, and stopped at 7.73 billion. The operating profit of the department who earns the most, one for mobile devices, has remained the same as a year ago, but fell by as much as 18 % compared to the previous quarter. It is believed that the reason for this is the release of new iPhone models which dragged away customers from Samsung, especially in the pre-Christmas period.

64 bit Bay Trail for mobile devices

Tablets based on Android with 64-bit Atom processors should arrive on the market in the next quarter, according to Intel's CEO Brian Krzanich at a meeting with analysts. Intel in November demonstrated the first prototype tablet with Android, which was powered by a 64-bit Atom. Of course, even though the 64-bit devices are at the door, it is worth noting that most of the applications at this time are not optimized for the new processors.

Nvidia Tegra K1 better than competition

According to preliminary tests conducted by the website Tom's Hardware newest Nvidia Tegra SoC chip K1 is better than the competition from Qualcomm and Apple. In the graphical tests, Nvidia Tegra K1 achieved 48 fps, compared to Apple's A7 chip which in the same tests made 38 fps, while Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 was left behind with 24 fps.

Famous co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, has given its support to the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi during a visit to the center of the company located in Beijing. Wozniak said on that occasion that he believes Xiaomi offers very good products that can achieve excellent results in the US market.
